Transportation

You would need to move around Lisbon, right? Here is how.

When you arrive in Lisbon, it is probably better to take a cab straight to your home. Ask your neighbours or google maps how to get to the nearest metro station so you can get a temporary card.

For the first few days in Lisbon, get the navegante occasional card, the card itself costs 0.5 euros and you can charge it with multiple trips, be noted that a carris/metro ticket costs 1.9 euros. Therefore, making time to get a permanent card, which is charged monthly, is important, as the daily fees will accumulate over time.

The price of the “Navegante Metropolitano” pass is 40 euros per month, and it allows you to circulate in all municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (“Área Metropolitana de Lisboa) by all available means of transport. If you only want to roam around Lisbon, the “Navegante Municipal” pass costs 30 euros (also includes Odivelas and Amadora).

Inside Lisbon, it is fairly easy to get to ISEG.

The most common choices are either by bus or subway. The bus is normally quicker than the train but is often subject to delays (in other words, the expected value is lower, but the variance is larger).

As of February 2026, there are two possible exits in the subway. Either go to Rato (last station on the yellow line) or to Cais do Sodré (last station on the green line). From both of these spots, you are within walkable distance of ISEG (about 15 minutes).

There has been constructing work on a new line, a circular line, that will have a station in Santos, very close to ISEG. It would be a improvement from both Rato and Cais do Sodré.

However, in Portugal schedules regarding to public works are not met. It should have been ready more than a year ago, and it may take a few more months, or more.

In terms of bus routes, the 706 and 727 pass within 3 minutes of ISEG. The bus stops of both routes nearer to ISEG are named “Assembleia da República”.

Getting around Lisbon can be accessible from your phone, all you need to do is download the Carris Application on Google Play Store.

It helps you navigate in a “Timely” fashion. All bus stops and time of arrivals are on this App. Cool right…
